That aside, it is Hana’s maternal instinct that leads them to care for the baby, and though not a traditional one, the three main characters are very much a mother, father, and child in their bond. However, one does have to keep in mind that Hana is also homeless, so it’s not like she has many options to be true to herself. While Hana is trans, there are some a little upset that her portrayal is that of a woman with stubble and bright red lipstick – something often rather insultingly used to portray a character as trans and used as comedy. They are determined to find the baby’s mother and ask her why this happened based on the clues they find next to her, but soon find themselves caught up in a whirlwind of events. On Christmas Eve, three homeless friends Hana, Gin, and Miyuki are rummaging through garbage when they find a baby. Some subtext is never directly stated or acknowledged, but I wouldn’t have included them if it wasn’t obviously there on the screen.
Before we get started with the LGBT anime movie recommendations, it does need to be said that one or two entries drift very closely into the “headcannon” or “inferred LGBT” category.
